Cairns is the heart of the Tropical North and is an excellent base for exploring this region. The Cairns International Airport is a short ride from the city centre. The Cairns Marina & Reef Fleet Terminal is only one block from the city centre and is the departure point for most Great Barrier Reef trips

The Daintree is situated an easy 2 hour drive north of Cairns and offers spectacular scenery and pristine beaches. There is a variety of accommodation and many locally owned and operated tour companies offering excellent guided rainforest walks, river cruises and wildlife viewing around the area.
Port Douglas is a spectacular one hour drive north of Cairns along one of the most scenic coastal roads in Australia. Offering the distinctive laid back atmosphere of a beachside resort, Port Douglas has quickly transformed from a sleepy fishing village to Australia's premier holiday destination.
Palm Cove is 25 minutes drive north of Cairns City centre and 20 minutes drive north of the domestic and international airport.

Palm Cove has developed into an exclusive resort and Spa destination with 2 of the local Spas being voted No. 1 & No. 2 in the world by Conde Nast Traveller Magazine in Jan. 2005.
Trinity Beach is a true favourite with locals and tourists alike. Only 15 minutes from the Cairns Airport, here you have a lovely private cove with a rocky walk and headland at the Southern end and over 1km of beautiful palm fringed sandy beach with great facilities.
The Atherton Tablelands (also known as the Cairns Highlands) is 90kms south-west of Cairns ranges from 500m to 1280m above sea level and covers 620km².

Mission Beach is a scenic 2 hour drive South of Cairns and is the gateway to Dunk & Bedarra Islands. Mission Beach Village is becoming a extremly popular holiday destination and is a perfect base for exploring the Cassowary Coast region.
Cooktown is located 260km north of Cairns by the coastal road (unsealed and recommended for 4WD vehicles only) and 350 km by the inland road (accessible by conventional vehicles).

The Cape York Peninsula begins north of Cairns, extending almost 1000 kms to the geographical tip of Australia in the north. It covers about 137,000 square kilometres -the Coral Sea is to the east of the Peninsula, the Torres Strait to the north, and the Gulf of Carpentaria to the west.
