White Water Rafting

Raging Thunder Adventures pioneered rafting in Queensland, Australia in 1984 with our first commercial trip consisting of three nervous passengers on the Tully River.

Even today we still raft the Mighty Tully River, because is regarded as the best rafting river accross Australia and New Zealand. This awesome adventure is located in spectacular surroundings only 2 hours south of Cairns, with departures from Port Douglas, Cairns, Northern Beaches and Mission Beach.

Plus we also raft the Barron River located just outside Cairns, with a half day raft perfectly suited for first time adventurer or those who want to cram more into their Adventure Holiday.

The Barron River

For an action packed afternoon of fun and adventure, try rafting on the thrilling Barron River. Located only 20 minutes from Cairns you'll have plenty of time to enjoy other activities on the same day.

The rapids on the Barron River are of grade 2-3 which means they are simple technical rapids with a need to manoeuvre the raft, which results in great rafting for first timers.

Please use this as a guide when choosing your level of adrenaline rush, but remember that experience is NOT necessary; in fact most of our clients have never been rafting before.

Rapid Names

Traditionally rapids are named by the first people to raft that rapid, so both the Tully River and Barron River have some rather interesting names...

Remember that you won't be able to bring anything aboard the raft other than yourself, but items such as bags / towels / clothes etc. can be stored securely on your coach.

When you arrive at the river you will be fitted with a helmet and life jacket, allowing you to float along the river should you happen to fall out.
