- About Family Friendly for Cairns
Cairns is the ideal location for a family holiday.
We have a wide range of accommodation here where kids can stay free. Families are very welcome in Cairns with no child free properties at all in the city. Some properties offer complete resort facilities including tennis courts, basketball and games rooms. All hotels and resorts have at least one swimming pool and many are designed with very shallow areas for little ones. If you need help please ask us. We know the properties and can help you make the right decision based on your budget and location requirements.
The Cairns esplanade is a fantastic place for families with children of all ages. We have the huge swimming laggoon that every body loves. This is surrounded by many free BBQ's and lots of grassy parkland areas. Stretch your legs along our beautiful marina and boardwalk and admire all of the bird life including pelicans. This is the central esplanade marina precinct and is the ideal location to stay as it is close to all the shopping and the Reef Fleet Terminal where all of the boats depart to head out to the reef.
A little further along the boardwalk is Muddy's playground. Here we have play equipment for the very young children right through to challenging climbing webs that appealling to at least school age children. There are beautiful fully equipped apartments and hotels very close to this playground and it is an ideal spot for families as it is still within easy walking distance to the marina, restaurants and shops.
And, heading about 300 metres further North along the esplanade we have the huge skate park where you can watch all the older kids getting narly!! They're great to watch and the teens love it here.
Then about 2 km's further along there is a pirate ship that has recently been updated to a modern large plastic playground equipment pirate ship. Designed for the little ones.
And, so, right along the esplanade is a lovely spot as the esplanade serves as a very large playground where you can fly a kite or play ball. It's a great place to enjoy the lovely weather.
If you prefer a beach holiday this is also possible and we have lovely beaches for family holidays. Basically in general the further north you go the higher the price. Yorkeys Knob is a fabulous Kite surfing beach and you can have lessons here. Be careful!! The conditions are perfect at the beach for this sport. Beachfront accommodation here is very reasonablely priced and great for families. Further north is Trinity Beach. This is a lovely beach within it's own cove. There are often dolphins and turtles out here near the rocky headland. The beach has many beachfront properties and resorts and is very family friendly. There is also a good range of restaurants to cater to all needs and budgets.
And, Kewarra Beach has a lovely little resort that is also very family friendly.
Then we have a brand new Vision property opening in Feb 2009 that is being operated by the same operators as The Lakes Resort & Spa. This resort is called Paradise Palms and will be ideal for families. It has an 18 hole golf course and a huge childrens playground including mini golf as well as very well priced hotels and apartments. The clubhouse here has a fantastic restaurant and there are big plans for families here so I will keep you posted.
And, finally we have Palm Cove. A wonderful beachside location with many resorts, many restaurants and some great apartments. We have some brilliant rates out here for very upmarket properties but if it is for the school holidays remember to book well in advance. This is a very busy time up here.
Beaches are great for family holidays. Children spend hours playing about with sticks and sand and splashing about. It's fun for everybody.
There are so many tour options from Cairns that are ideal for families. Here you can show the children the Great Barrier Reef and see their amazement at the enormous variety of fish and coral. We have outer barrier reef trips that cater to families with touch tanks and toddler pools on the reef. Many tour companies offer special rates or kids free. Please ask us and we can head you in the right direction.
