  • About Tours & Activities for Cairns

Interested in having some fun? Then the Far North has no shortage of tours and activities to keep you busy for weeks! There are over 600 tours that depart daily from Cairns alone. No matter who you are and what interests you may have, there will be a tour or activity which will give you a WOW experience!

Of course the Far North is a magnet for reef and rainforest activities. These are the most popular tours options that depart year round.

GREAT BARRIER REEF:
Whether you are a beginner snorkeller or experienced diver the Great Barrier Reef has something for everyone. Non swimmers don't have to miss out either, semi submersible tours, glass bottom boats, underwater observatories and scenic helix flights are all options to view the reef without getting wet. It’s a great educational experience for young and old and something special to remember forever.

RAINFOREST EXPERIENCES:
Australia’s Tropical Rainforests, known at the Wet Tropics, covers approximately 900,000 square hectares and is internationally recognised as being one of the most ecologically fascinating natural areas in the world. It is one of a few remaining truly pristine tropical rainforest places on the planet. If you only have a couple of days in Cairns then apart from the reef, a visit to the rainforest is a must, as no where else in the world do two World Heritage Areas stand side by side.

Tours depart daily to the rainforest, the majority of tours being a full day due to the length of travel involved, but there are some half day options available also.

The Skyrail Cableway to Kuranda is the most popular rainforest option. Generally people journey to Kuranda on the Scenic Train, enjoy some free time in Kuranda Village, followed by the Skyrail Cableway as a return journey over pristine rainforest canopy.

To the north of Cairns and Port Douglas is the Daintree and Cape Tribulation rainforests, an area of outstanding natural beauty where the reef literally meets the rainforests. A journey to the Daintree is full of surprises and if you’re lucky you might spot a cassowary or two.

ADVENTURE ACTIVITIES:
An adrenalin fuelled rainforest trip I would suggest is the Tully White Water Rafting. Set at beautiful Tully Gorge, where better in the world to take on the thrill of white water rapids in the magic of the World Heritage Rainforest.

Apart from reef and rainforest trips there is no end to other activities available. For adrenalin junkies we have AJ Hackett bungy, Skydiving, ATV, kite surfing, wake boarding, mountain biking and horseriding.

SCENIC TOURS:
For those who want to appreciate the scenery and culture then the Tablelands offers all things scenic with rolling grassy hills and farmland, its a big contrast to the rainforest, and well worth a visit to appreciate how diverse the Far North is.

FAMILIES:
Families will love the Rainforest Habitat, Hartley’s Croc Park and various other local attractions. Green Island is an easy option for families also. There are regular ferry departures throughout the day and then once on the island the day is yours to do as you please. There are many activities available on Green Island and most can be organised whilst there.

If you want to have time to appreciate it all then a one week stay will give you a great introduction to the region.
