Itinerary
You will be collected by our air-conditioned four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle. Our North Queensland tours travel north along the Captain Cook Highway, one of Australia's most scenic coastal drives towards the World Heritage Listed Daintree National Park. You will cross the Daintree River by cable ferry and journey through this spectacular example of Mother Nature, which contains the highest number of plant and animal species that are rare, or threatened by extinction.
Experienced driver-guide
Your experienced guide will enlighten your journey with incredible stories and history as you continue on the 4WD only Bloomfield Track. This 32km track will take you through some of the most spectacular scenery in Australia, crossing rivers and climbing mountain ranges. We stop for lunch at the famous Lion's Den Hotel (est. 1875), North Queensland's oldest running bush pub. We continue to the unique geological oddity, which is Black Mountain, surrounded in mystery and spoken of in ancient Aboriginal legend.
Cooktown
Our tours arrive in Cooktown where you will have 360 degree view from Grassy Hill. Vistas of the Coral Sea, the Endeavour River and Cooktown. Have your camera ready! Cooktown is a beautiful, unspoilt, smallhistoric coastal town surroundd by stunning countryside. Visit the world class James Cook Museum or stroll along the shores of the Endeavour River. The main street has a charm and historical atmosphere, which still prevails.
Optional Aboriginal Rock Art Tour
Day 2 -An early start today as you will be collected fom your accommodation by Nugal-warra Elder, Willie Gordon for a half day Rainbow Serpent Rock Art Tour. Willie, the traditional story-teller of the Nugal-warra clan, takes guests to his ancestral rock art sites, set high in the hills above Hope Vale, outside Cooktown. Here he shares the stories behind the art, and explains how the paintings speak of the essence of life and the lores of his people.
Willie gives an amazing insight into Aboriginal society, and shows how we all have a spiritual place, wherever we come from.
The Rainbow Serpent Tour takes you through a dramatic landscape to six rock art sites, including the Rainbow Serpent Cave and an ancestral Birth Site where Willie's grandfather was born. The tour includes an estimated 30-minute bush walk. There is a short climb to two of the sites, but generally the terrain is easy. Cost $115.00 per adult $70.00 per child 3-13yrs BOOKINGS RECOMMENDED
