Testimonials

Swingn Ukes at the "Chapel"

From.....Graham Cox, Yacht Arion, Bluewater Marina.

As a member of the Cairns Ukulele Club, I was delighted to see their exotic float in the Cairns Parade, it was one of a small number of floats that was really humming.  Afterwards, a number of us retired to “The Chapel” at Jamaica Joe's, on the Esplanade and were entertained in grand style by the “Swing'n Ukes"  on the balcony.

The band was fronted by two amplified ukuleles that really hum.  One of the band members Chris, plays what might be called lead ukulele (concert uke) - he uses a pin I am told as a pick - producing extraordinary riffs, while his mate, Garry, supports him in solid, foot-stomping style on the Tenor Uke, They are both talented vocalists, and we were treated to a broad selection of classic rock.

The Uke front line was backed by a very professional drummer Maxwell and Bass player Gerry, I believe they will be appearing regularly from now on at 7.00 pm on Wednesday nights at the same venue, and I look forward to hearing more of them.  Now I think I'll just go home and practice some more on my own uke!

The old Classic Jazz and Latin songs never die.

I was fortunate to be present at the 2009 Annual "Biggest Breakfast" fund-raiser for the Brest Cancer Foundation, held at Coolums Restaurant, Holloways Beach yesterday 28th May.

The "Evergreen Quintet" a sophisticated local Cairns group happily entertained the fund raiser guests at this delightful tropical waterside location.

The bands velvet touch with their Jazz and Latin  selection was the perfect choice for people attending this successful and well run annual community fund-raising event.

My personal thanks go to the band members for their dedication to their craft.
